MERCURY POLLUTION
How can I prevent mercury pollution?
There are several things which can be
done to reduce the effect of mercury
on the environment. Here's what you
can do:
- Know which products contain mercury
- Avoid buying products which contain
mercury where non-mercury substitutes
are available
- Complete an inventory of mercury
containing products in your home.
- Avoid putting mercury containing
items in the garbage. Recycle these
items or bring them to a Household
Hazardous Waste Depot wherever possible.
- Conserve energy to reduce reliance
on coal burning for fuel.
(Mercury is a by-product of coal combustion.)
