Apartment Recycling … easy as 1, 2, 3

Currently, homeowners in Thunder Bay can put out blue bags of recyclables at the curb every second garbage day. For city residents who live in apartments and condominiums it may not be so easy to recycle. Keen apartment dwellers have been recycling at the depots on Mountdale Avenue, Front Street, and at the John Street Landfill Site. But we know it needs to be more convenient to recycle in order to increase participation and divert valuable resources from the landfill site.
EcoSuperior and the City of Thunder Bay have a program that assists apartment building managers and superintendents set up recycling programs for their tenants. EcoSuperior provides a resource person to work one-on-one with the building manager to figure out the logistics of setting up and maintaining an effective recycling program. We provide a kit with a recycling handbook full of ideas and tips for starting or improving a recycling program. We provide posters, fridge magnets, and other printed material for residents that clearly lay out the ‘what’s’ and ‘how’s’ of recycling.

One feature of the program is the apartment recycling basket, available for $3 each, designed to make recycling simple for each apartment dweller. This blue heavy-duty plastic basket fits conveniently in small places, mounts neatly inside a cupboard or closet, is easy to rinse clean, and has a comfortable handle so it can be carried with one hand to the recycling area.
If you are a property manager or superintendent for an apartment or condominium building call our resource person at 624-2142 to make an appointment. We’ll work with you to set up a system that will make recycling as easy as 1, 2, 3.
